Distribution of neuronal loss with gliosis in pAGD and control cases. In pAGD cases with Saito AG stages I–III, neuronal loss sequentially became more evident with the progression of AGD especially in the amygdala, hippocampal CA1, neocortex, thalamus, and substantia nigra. In diffuse form pAGD cases, evident neuronal loss with gliosis was additionally noted in the caudate nucleus, putamen, and globus pallidus but not in the subthalamic nucleus
